Empowerment In The Moment

Two days ago, I was privileged to be a part of the Hollywood Women’s International Film Festival at UCLA. The documentary that I co-produced, The Rhythm of Blue, was screened there. I am honored to report that we won an award… Best Social Justice Documentary! How exciting! I was asked to participate in a panel discussion just before my film was shown. The topic of discussion centered around the challenges of being a female director/ producer in the film industry as it relates to finding funding, creating a work of art and being taken seriously in general. It was inspiring and downright cool to hear the other women speak on their experiences. It turns out that no matter where you’re from or what your background, you can relate to someone else who may seem totally opposite of you.

I am truly thankful for the opportunities that my work has afforded me. You experience many ups and many downs being a creative professional. No two days are alike. You never know what stumbling blocks may arise in the midst of your current project, but then I’m sure that is the case in any industry. However, the end result, the finished product makes it all worth it! The fact that I can see and hear how a work of art that I had a hand in creating has touched someone’s life… made them better… caused them to seek help is a tremendously humbling experience.

It’s easy to become frustrated in the midst of the work but if you just stay in the moment and enjoy the process, the journey becomes so much sweeter! That’s where you find the joy… staying in the moment.

Go get your joy, my friends!
