I was on a webinar this morning learning all kinds of wonderful things that will help to grow my businesses (yay!!!) and the host said something that really resonated with me. She said, “Perfectionism keeps you frozen”. WOW!!! That blew my mind! It’s not like this is new information, I mean, I’ve heard it before, but today… I guess I was ready to RECEIVE it. We hear advice all the time but until we are ready and open to receive it, it’s just empty words.
Anyway… so even though this webinar was geared towards business practices, the quote applies to all aspects of life. For instance, there are a few goals that I set out to achieve 20 years ago in my “career” as an actor/director/producer. I was unstoppable back then. I thought I could take Hollywood by storm and become rich and famous and live happily ever after. However, life happened instead.
In the following years I experienced marriage, kids, homelessness, illness, you know… life’s ups and downs that come no matter what. I’ve always said to myself that I’ll get back on track when I get all my ducks in a row. Essentially, when things are “perfect”.
News Flash: It will never be “perfect”. The ducks never line up in a nice, neat row. Would I have had kids even if I had pursued my goals more seriously? Yes. Would I have still experienced illness or homelessness? Maybe… Possibly… who knows? The point is that you cannot let life’s twists and turns keep you from jumping all in! You’ve gotta move forward. There’s no such thing as a perfect situation. Perfectionism will keep you frozen in “what if?” rather than “what next?”
As perfectly imperfect as life may be, it’s too short to live with regrets. Go forth and grab your joy, my friends.
